Earthwork pits of possible post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, within Sprat's Copse, to the east of Brimley Linhay. The irregular shaped and adjacent earthworks measure between 53m to 65m in length and have been cut into the moderate to steep northwest facing slope. Marl pits are depicted in close proximity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which gives good indication as to the possible use of these earthworks. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
