Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 onwards show that the orchard is covered with fruit trees, although by 1982 these have been almost completely cleared, exposing a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.44 hectares of gentle to moderate east facing slope. The earthwork banks remain visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
