Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Peterhayes Farm. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 onwards show that the orchards are largely covered with fruit trees, although by 1982 these have been mostly cleared, exposing a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.66 hectares of gentle southeast facing slope. Earthwork banks within the eastern-most orchard remain visible on digital images deived from lidar data captured in 2016, whilst those within the western two orchards appear to have been largely levelled.
