Visible on National Monuments Record aerial photograph 81979. The moor has now been reclaimed, and the barrow has ploughmarks right across it.


Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1970, SS81NW6 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV341969.

Site visited on 14th April 1970, Flat topped round barrow 0.8 metres high with no ditch and only minor excavation in the top. In early enclosed but un-reclaimed moorland. Other details: Plan, Site B.

Site visit 19th October 1998. A bowl barrow situated on a prominent upland ridge known as Witheridge Moor. It is one of a group of four barrows which straddle this ridge. The monument survives as a circular mound which measures 38 metres in diameter and is 0.9 metres high. The surrounding ditch from which material to construct the mound was derived survives as a buried feature.

Two Bronze Age bowl barrows on Witheridge Moor, part of a group. This eastern barrow is 38 metres in diameter and 0.9 metres high.


Payne, S., 2011, Farm Environment Plan Survey Visit (Personal Comment). SDV348588.

Site visit to Witheridge Moor to survey targeted areas for Farm Environment Plan. Survey revealed that the barrow was in fair condition, covered by bracken with a single hawthorn on top. Some badger/rabbit activity affecting the barrow.
