Earthwork pits of possible post-medieval to 19th century gravel pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the west of Blackhayes Farm. The earthworks comprise a number of sub-oval shaped pits which measure between 30m to 35m in length, with a possible much larger earthwork measuring approximately 72m in length by 50m in width amongst these. Gravel pits are depicted within the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of these earthworks. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data capture in 2016.
