Earthwork pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century clay pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Rawridge Farm. The three adjacent earthworks are sub-oval and irregular in shape and are located in proximity to several clay pits depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthworks occupy the site of a former orchard which is also depicted here on this map, the orchard likely being established within the clay pits following their abandonment. A number of similar such earthworks have been recorded during this survey and from a walkover survey carried out in 2016 associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. This monument has been recorded as a child record of MDV114110, which was created following this walkover survey. It includes a number of extraction pits, of which one of the clay pits recorded here is one. No attempt has, however, been made to individually amend the monument polygons for this parent record. The clay pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
