Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1982 onwards, to the west of Sandy’s Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard is covered with fruit trees, although by 1982 these have been completely cleared, exposing a series of parallel east to west aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.44 hectares of gentle west facing slope. They remain partly visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
