An earthwork bank with possible cutting of largely uncertain date and function are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Fourways. The curvilinear earthwork bank measures approximately 78m in length by 13m in width and is located at the intersection of Sandy’s Lane and an un-named road. A possible semi-circular cutting or levelled area is visible on the inside of the banked feature. Whilst the function of the earthworks is largely unclear, it is possible they represent the remains of a post-medieval to modern extraction pit or quarry. Alternatively, the bank also ties up with a field boundary on the opposite side of the road, so may have formed the eastern tip of a field, prior to construction of the road. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
