Possible extraction pits of post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southwest of Higher Moorhayne. The irregular shaped earthworks are located at the intersection of two converging and historic field boundaries. It is also possible the earthworks formed part of a single feature, pre-dating this field boundary. An additional extraction pit is also visible in close proximity to the east. The two earthworks are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
