They were built in 1898 as quarters of superor staff at the prison and were used as such until 1980. Now private dwellings.

Row of houses is depicted for the first time on the early 20th century historic map.

The New Villas were built in 1898 as quarters for superior staff such as the chief officer first class, the farm manager and the foreman of works. In 1980, after 80 years, it was declared no longer required and the leases were relinquished back to the Duchy of Cornwall. The quarters are now private houses.
