Earthwork pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century extraction pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Stoneshells Cottage. The northern of the two earthworks is irregular in shape and measures approximately 67m in length by 26m in width and is depicted as a wooded copse or orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which it likely pre-dates. That to the immediate south is sub-oval in shape and measures 24m in length by 13m in width The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
