Full description

The extraction pit appears to abut, and so post-date, a field boundary along its southern edge.

A possible extraction pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northeast of Yarcombe. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 45m in length by 24m in width and is located adjacent to a stream on gentle southeast facing slope. The possible extraction pit appears to abut, and so post-date, an historic field boundary depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map along its southern edge. It is situated in close proximity to a number of similar such features recorded as part of this survey and remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 2000.
