Earthwork pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century marl pits are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southwest of Lower Pithayne Farm. The two adjacent earthworks are located either side of an historic and extant field boundary and in close proximity to a number of other marl pits depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The site of the marl pits is also depicted as an orchard on this map, the fruit trees likely being established within the pits following their abandonment. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived lidar data captured in 2016.
