A probable marl pit of post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southwest of Lower Pithayne Farm. The irregular shaped feature measures approximately 58m in length by 32m in width and is located in close proximity to two other marl pits depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. A number of other similar such features have also been recorded here as part of this survey. The marl pit remains visible on digital images derived from DTM lidar data captured in 2016.
