A possible Second World War bomb crater is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1942 onwards, on Beacon Hill. The circular earthwork measures approximately 16m in diameter and is located approximately 1km to the southeast of Upottery Airfield, the likely intended target for the bomb. The freshness of the earthworks on the wartime aerial photographs likely confirms this interpretation. It remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
