Extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Tiphayes Farm. The two adjacent earthworks are oval and irregular in shape and measure up to 31m in length. They are located in close proximity to a clay pit and a sand pit depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, as well as a number of similar such features recorded as part of this survey. The former extraction pits are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
