Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard is partly covered with fruit trees, although by 1982 these have been completely cleared, exposing a series of parallel northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.28 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope and remain visible on aerial photographs of 2000.
