Former field boundaries of potential medieval or post-medieval date are visible as a series of earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southeast of Highley Farm. The linear and curvilinear earthworks are broadly northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 6.7 hectares of land. The field boundaries clearly form part of a field system, although appear to have largely passed out of use by the time of the Parish Tithe Map, with the exception of the eastern-most field boundary which remains extant up to the mid- 20th century. The Historic Landscape Characterisation project classifies this area as comprising ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’. The earthworks remain clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
