Linear and curvilinear earthwork banks and ditches were visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data, on the south-facing slopes south of Woodhayne Farm, Combe Raleigh. The earthworks do not correspond with any field boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Combe Raleigh, but do fall within the extant field pattern and abut junctions and corners of extant field boundaries. In addition, the earthwork bank corresponds with a row of trees depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, which supports this interpretation that the trees were grown out hedgerow planting. The curvilinear form of the earthworks and small size of the former fields might support the interpretation that the former field boundaries were potentially of medieval origin.
