A possible former quarry or extractive pit was visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as an earthwork on the south-west facing slopes to the west of New House Farm, Combe Raleigh parish. The date of the pit is uncertain. It abuts a field boundary within an area characterised by HLC as post-medieval enclosure based on medieval strip fields, and is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map; as such it has been interpreted as being of potentially of post-medieval to 19th century date.
