Curvilinear ditches or hollows were recorded as earthworks from digital images derived from Lidar data, on the north-east facing slopes north of Higher Crook Farm, Combe Raleigh. The ditches are interpreted as the remains of removed field. The curvilinear form of the diches and their position in relation to boundaries within the extant field system supports the interpretation that the earthworks are remnants of a field system of medieval origin, derived in part from strip fields. The south-easternmost section of the former boundary is defined by a slight scarp where the ground level drops towards a tributary of the River Otter. The former boundaries were not depicted on the Tithe map for Combe Raleigh and had therefore been removed prior to the 1840s.
