A former field or plantation boundary of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 as a short earthwork bank around 3 metres wide, flanked by ditches less than a metre wide, on the steep north-west facing slopes under Hedgend Plantation, Monkton Parish. The boundary is not depicted on the Tithe Map for Monkton or the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map, although two similar boundaries are first depicted on the latter map approximately 200 and 300 metres to the north-east. It is probable that the boundary is of similar, mid to late 19th century date but it could predate the Tithe map and have a post-medieval to 19th century origin. The location of the boundary is obscured by trees on the most recent images available to the survey and the bank might survive as an earthwork.
