A roughly oval shaped pit almost 50 metres in length was visible on aerial photographs of 1982 and digital images derived from lidar data as an earthwork on south-west facing slopes to the east of Wick, Luppitt Parish. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, and therefore probably passed out of use prior to the 1880s. An ‘Old Chalk Pit’ is depicted on the OS First Edition Map roughly 60 metres to the south-east and a similar role can be interpreted for this relict earthwork.
