Former field boundaries of probable medieval date were visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and digital images derived from lidar data, as curvilinear earthwork banks and ditches on the west-facing slopes to the north-west of Shaugh Barton.
The relict earthworks fell within the surrounding field pattern, one that has been characterised by HLC as medieval enclosures based on strip fields, but did not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Luppitt. The earthworks have therefore been interpreted as former field boundaries of medieval origin that were removed prior to circa 1840.
