Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 and on digital images captured in 2010, to the north of Newcott Barton. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1948, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been completely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 1.07 hectares of gentle to moderate northeast facing slope. The orchard appears to lie within and so post-date the site of a former extraction pit or quarry (MDV115115).
