Earthworks of possible extraction pits of potential medieval to post-medieval date are visible on aerial photographs of 1948 and 1971, to the south of Middelton Barton. The earthworks are fairly poorly defined, but appear to represent at least two sub-oval shaped earthwork pits, up to 39m in length by 28m in width, with an earthwork bank derived from possible up-cast material associated with the eastern of the two pits. A monument record of a rectangular cropmark (MDV47200) is also recorded here, and although no such cropmarks are clearly visible, it is possible it relates to these earthworks. Also earthworks recorded to the northwest (MDV11568) which describe earthworks of possible marl or gravel pits may relate to the features recorded here. Possible earthworks remain visible on aerial photographs of 1971, although they are not visible after this date and their survival is uncertain.
