Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible shallow roughly circular pit approximately 40 by 50 metres in size was visible as a slight earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 and more clearly visible on aerial photographs of 2010, as an earthwork on the south-east-facing slopes south of Pound Copse, Luppitt Parish. Digital images derived from lidar data acquired in 2016 reveal the earthwork to continue to the south-east for almost another 60 metres towards the corner of the field.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. It is probable that the pit was in use from the post-medieval period to some point prior to the 1880s. However, it is possible it dates to an earlier period.
