Two possible former extractive pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century date were visible on aerial photographs of 1947 and digital images derived from lidar data as earthworks on the east-facing slopes overlooking Whitehall Farm, Luppitt parish. The visible earthworks were roughly rectilinear and elongated oval in shape, measuring circa 40 by 30 metres and over 60 metres by circa 25 metres in size.
The earthworks did not correspond with any pits or quarries depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. It is therefore probable that the pits passed out of use at some point prior to the 1880s. The pits remain clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data and probably therefore survive as earthworks.
