Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible former extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from elevation data as a roughly circular earthwork up to 25 metres in diameter on the south-facing slopes to the north-west of Lower Shelvin, Luppitt parish.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, which might support the interpretation that the pit passed out of use at some point prior to the 1880s. The pit remains partially visible on digital images derived from elevation data of 2006 and probably survives as an earthwork.
