Parallel linear earthwork banks, circa 3.5 metres in width, were identified from simple local relief visualisations of lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and are also visible on aerial photographs taken between 1996 and 2002. Their width and cross-contour orientation are indicative of tree planting banks of post-medieval or 19th century date. No orchard is depicted in this location on the available historic mapping, but the Tithe apportionment names this area of pasture as ‘Riddles Old Orchard’, so use of this land as an orchard pre-dated the 1840 Tithe map for Stockland.
