The extraction pit is visible as an earthwork pit.

An extraction pit of possible post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, to the northeast of Carlingwark. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 41m in length by 17m in width and abuts, and so post-dates, an historic field boundary along its western edge. The extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1989, although has possibly been partly infilled following removal of the field boundary here. Digital images captured in 2010 show the extent of the extraction pit as a possible soil mark, although it is unclear whether it also survives as an earthwork pit.
