The remains of ridges made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage probably between the post-medieval period and early 20th century were visible as low, parallel earthwork banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 and 2014, on south-facing slopes north of Higher Shelvin Farm, Luppitt Parish.
The banks were arranged in two blocks either side of a spring fed stream, on slightly different orientations, but both aligned cross contour, and spaced 5 to 6 metres apart.
The earthworks correspond to a plot depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map. The plot remained lightly planted with trees in 1947 but had been completely cleared by 1999.
