An extraction pit of possible post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southeast of Caller’s Farm. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 100m in length by 42m in width and is largely depicted on the Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48. The accompanying Tithe Apportionment also lists this plot as ‘Pit Orchard’. A separate earthwork also within this plot is visible to the immediate southeast, although since it is defined on the 2016 Ordnance Survey MasterMap, has not been transcribed as part of this survey. The earthwork pit remains clearly visible on digital images captured in 2007.
