Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2008, to the east of Gollick Park. A possible orchard is depicted here on the Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48 and is listed as ‘Higher Orchard’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. By the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, however, the orchard appears to have passed out of use. The earthworks are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.11 hectares of gentle to moderate southwest facing slope, within a single rectilinear shaped plot depicted on the Tithe Map. The possible orchard banks are not clearly visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey.
