The earthworks fall within a field enclosure pattern that has been characterised as medieval enclosures probably first enclosed during the medieval period.

A possible platform and pit were visible on aerial photographs of 1996 and images derived from lidar data as earthworks on the gentle south-facing slopes the northern edge of Stockland. The platform measures approximately 50 metres square in size and the adjacent possible pit roughly 40 by 20 metres in size. Both fall with a plot depicted on the Tithe map for Stockland (Plot 395, Orchards Close, pasture), which is part of a field pattern characterised by HLC as being of medieval origin, and are therefore likely to be medieval or post-medieval in date. The function of the platform is unknown.
