A former extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as an earthwork on the south-west facing combe slopes below Rull Farm, Stockland, overlooking the Corry Brook.
Overall the earthworks are roughly triangular in shape, measuring approximately 75 by 50 metres in size. Two possible phases of extraction processes might be evidenced by the earthworks. A shallow scoop or terrace 25 by 50 metres in size defines the southern, downslope part of the earthwork. Above this a more sharply defined earthwork 70 by 23 metres in size curved cuts into the combe slope. This may have been the working face of the pit.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. The extractive use of the pit had therefore probably ceased prior to the 1840s. The pit remained clearly visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data and therefore probably survives as an earthwork.
