Three irregular earthwork pits, up to 135 metres across, are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1945 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. They are located on the western side of Membury roughly along the 140-145 metre contour. No features are depicted in these locations on the available historic mapping, and they are interpreted as the remains of post-medieval or early modern extraction pits that had ceased operation by the late-19th century.
