Three former extractive pits of possible medieval to 19th century date were visible on aerial photographs of 2000 and digital images derived from lidar data as earthworks on the north-east facing slopes above Brimblecombe Farm, Dalwood parish.
The pits were roughly oval or sub-rectilinear in shape and measured up to circa 30 metres across. The earthworks did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, which supports the interpretation that use of the extractive pit had ceased by the 1840s at the latest.
The earthworks remained clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and therefore probably survive as earthworks.
