This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields

The former boundary is not readily identifiable as an earthwork.

A curvilinear bank almost 3 metres wide flanked by narrow ditches was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and digital images derived from lidar data as earthworks on the east facing slopes south of Dalwood village.
The ditched bank did not correspond with any boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Dalwood and was therefore probably removed prior to the 1840s. The earthworks fall within a field pattern characterised as probably first enclosed with hedge banks in the later medieval period, the enclosures based on earlier strip field cultivation. The relict bank has therefore been interpreted as probably the remains of a field boundary of medieval date. The bank cannot be identified on more recent aerial photographs but remains visible as a slight earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
