Summary

The slight remains of narrow ridges, possibly made for tree planting or improved drainage from the post-medieval period to the early 20th century, were visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as low and narrow parallel earthwork banks on the south-west facing slopes south of Kennel Copse, overlooking Ford Farm, Dalwood.

Narrow earthwork banks were visible as slight earthworks.

The slight remains of narrow ridges, possibly made for tree planting or improved drainage from the post-medieval period to the early 20th century, were visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as low and narrow parallel earthwork banks on the south-west facing slopes south of Kennel Copse, overlooking Ford Farm, Dalwood.
The visible banks extended over an area of circa 0.25 hectares and were spaced roughly 6 metres apart. The plot in which the banks were visible was adjacent to one to the south depicted as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the OS First Edition 25 inch map but was not itself depicted as an orchard. The banks are therefore interpreted as possible evidence of a previous or reduced phase of orchard.
They were aligned cross contour, presumably to aid drainage towards combe and stream to the south-west.
The banks were not identifiable as earthworks on more recent images available to the survey and might have been levelled.
The possible former orchard was bounded by probable relict boundaries of medieval date, recorded separately.
