Three irregular earthwork pits, the largest circa 50 by 30 metres, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1996 and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. Orchard trees are depicted in a curvilinear enclosure in the western end of the field on the late-19th century map, and one of the pits lies within this area. They are interpreted as the remains of post-medieval or early modern extraction pits that had ceased operation by the late-19th century, one of which was subsequently reused as an orchard.
