Next Perspectives, 2010, Aerial Photography for Great Britain, Next Perspectives APGB Imagery ST2203 23-MAY-2010 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359317.
An irregularly shaped dark soilmark or germination mark was visible. The limit of the soilmark was poorly defined and was approximated using the 'extent of area' transcription convention.
Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
An irregularly shaped dark soil mark roughly 23 metres by 15 metres in size was visible on the west-facing slopes west of Shortmoor Cross, Stockland parish. The soilmark did not correspond with any features depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, although extractive pits were depicted on the latter in the surrounding area, including sand pits and gravel pits. The pit is therefore interpreted as evidence of a former extractive pit of medieval to 19th century date.
