Numerous curvilinear earthwork ditches, many conjoined and up to 2 metres in width, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards. They do partly fit into the field pattern depicted on the Tithe map in an area characterised as based on medieval strip fields, with some elements apparently contiguous with extant boundaries. It seems likely that many are field boundary ditches, perhaps of medieval origin. However their form suggests that they served a water management function, although their layout is not typical of catchmeadow or drainage systems and they may be boundaries that had a secondary drainage function.
