Possible extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Abbey Wood. The two adjacent earthworks are irregular in shape, measure approximately 85m in length and are situated on steep southeast facing slope, within an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. The earthworks are largely obscured by tree cover on recent aerial photographs and digital images made available to the survey, although are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
