A possible clay pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southeast of Abbey Wood, Dunkeswell. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 51m in length by 40m in width and abuts a road along its eastern edge. The extraction pit is located in close proximity to clay pits depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, so was also conceivably utilised for such. It remains partly visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
