An extraction pit of between medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the west of Little Musgrove Farm, Dunkeswell. The sub-rectilinear shaped earthwork measures approximately 43m in length by 40m in width and abuts ‘Burn some Lane’ trackway along its northeast edge. The site of the earthwork is depicted as woodland on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map which likely established itself following the disuse of the former extraction pit. The extraction pit is located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey. It remains faintly visible as a possible earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
