Extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the east of Dunkeswell Abbey, Hemyock. The earthworks comprise a semi-circular shaped pit approximately 33m in length by 20m in width and an elongated shaped pit approximately 72m in length by 26m in width. The earthworks are located either side of an historic field boundary and are both symbolised on the Parish Tithe Map. The extraction pits are located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey and remain partly visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2014.
