An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1989, and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the northeast of Collinshayne Copse, Clayhidon. The extent of the earthwork is depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of the 1880’s-90’, which the extraction pit likely pre-dates. Orchard banks have also been recorded here as part of this survey (MDV115554) and have been recorded as associated monuments. The extraction pit is irregular in shape, measures approximately 74m in length by 37m in width and is located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey. The earthwork is not visible after aerial photographs of 1989, and digital images captured in 2007 show the site of the extraction pit is completely obscured by tree cover.
