Name:Former Field Boundary south-west of Cuckford, Stockland

Summary

A pale curvilinear cropmark, between 2.5 and 4 metres in maximum width, is visible on aerial photographs taken between 1996 and 2014. It manifests in a similar way to a cropmark 70 metres to the east that corresponds to the location of a removed field boundary depicted on historic mapping. The cropmark seems to terminate in the south at a dog-leg in the adjacent curvilinear field boundary depicted on the Tithe map, within an area characterised as based on medieval strip fields. The cropmark is interpreted as having formed over the levelled remains of a medieval field boundary bank that went out of use by the mid-19th century.
