A possible gravel pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1950 onwards, to the southeast of Brownings Farm, Hemyock. The earthwork is sub-circular in shape and measures approximately 38m in diameter. It is located within an area depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, with the orchard likely being established here following the dis-use of the pit. Several gravel pits are also depicted within the vicinity on this map, so is conceivable this feature was similarly exploited for such. It remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images captured in 2010.
